Preamble

The Logistics Hall of Fame honours leading figures who have made outstanding efforts to promote the further development of logistics and supply chain management. Legends of Logistics.

Managers, consultants, scientists and historical figures of great merit should not be forgotten. This eternal pantheon is designed to remind future generations of logisti-cians of these individuals and what they achieved.

The Logistics Hall of Fame aims to document outstanding achievements in logistics, to recognise the individuals behind these achievements, and to encourage and promote innovations. In this way, it raises public awareness for the performance capability and innovative drive of logistics, thereby helping to underpin the competitiveness and improve the image of the entire logistics sector.

The Logistics Hall of Fame can be accessed free of charge at any time at www.logisticshalloffame.net.

The Logistics Hall of Fame was initiated by Anita Würmser and founded on September 18, 2003.

§ 1 Induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame

Men and women of any age (and also deceased persons) can be inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame. They must have advanced the development of logistics in a decisive way through a societal, organisational, technical, scientific or business management achievement which they implemented or for which they themselves were primarily responsible. They are the legends of logistics. The achievement must have positive long-term impacts on the logistical performance of a large number of companies or institutions. One person or group of people is generally inducted in the Hall of Fame every year. If no undoubted person can be identified for an outstanding performance, the performance itself can be admitted to the Logistics Hall of Fame. As a rule, the award is presented once a year.

§ 2 Application and nomination

Proposals or applications for induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame are to be submitted in writing using the Internet form at www.logisticshalloffame.net.

There are no restrictions on the right to submit proposals. All persons are entitled to submit proposals and can put forward themselves or others for induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame. Departments, research institu-tions, federations, project groups or other groups may also apply or be proposed. However, no abstract groups are inducted into the Hall of Fame but only specific individuals. The jury assesses the achievement of each individual person in the group. If the achievement of just one of the people in the group does not meet the criteria, then the entire group will be excluded from the selection process. All submissions are treated equally regardless of the identity of the person making the submission. In the first round of voting, the Council selects up to ten candidates from all the submitted proposals once a year, and the names of these candidates are passed on to the jury, which decides who is to be inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame. The Council shall make a recommendation for the jury to vote.

Proposals and nominations are confidential, and only the Council and the jury have access to the names in question.

§ 3 Election of members

Voting process is by secret ballot.

From the group of nominees, the jury selects a candidate for induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame. The pro-cess is as follows: after reviewing the submissions, each jury member draws up a written ranking. In first place, the jury member names the nominee who he or she thinks has most earned induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame based on Art. 1. In tenth place (or "last place" if the number of nominees is fewer than 10) in this rank-ing, the jury member names the nominee who he or she believes has least earned induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame based on Art. 1. The places in between first and last place are filled in using the same process. Each jury member may assign each ranking place only once. This ranking process is carried out using a scoring form on the Internet to which only the members of the jury have access. An overall ranking is formed based on the rankings of the jury members. The best-placed nominee overall is inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame.

If no candidate achieves a simple majority, the best candidates with the equal points will be inducted into the Logistics Hall of Fame.

§ 4 Logistics Hall of Fame Council and appointment

In the first round of voting, the Council selects up to ten candidates from all the submitted proposals, and the names of these candidates are passed on to the jury. The Council also draws up a ranking list which is intended as an election recommendation for the jury.

The members of the Council are appointed each year from among the ranks of the jury. In addition, experts can be appointed to the Council. Membership in the Council is tied to the occupational function and ends automatically at the end of the voting period or when the member withdraws from an office or the occupational function.

If a member of the Council is proposed for induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame, he or she is automatically excluded from the Committee for the duration of the voting period in question. In this event, membership ends on the date of the submitted proposal and recommences once the new member has been announced.

§ 5 Jury membership and appointment

The jury is made up of international experts from the logistics sector. They elect the new member of the Logis-tics Hall of Fame every year and represent the organisation in the public sphere. All jury members support and further the objectives of the Logistics Hall of Fame.

The responsibilities of the jury include the following:

  • Representation of the Logistics Hall of Fame in the public sphere
  • Generation of public interest
  • Proposal of new jury members and filling of vacant jury seats following the withdrawal of jury members
  • Proposal of suitable candidates for the Logistics Hall of Fame

The members of the jury are appointed. Membership of the jury is tied to the occupational function and ends automatically when the member withdraws from an office or the occupational function. A member who has withdrawn from the jury cannot be re-appointed to the jury within six months of withdrawal.

If a member of the jury is nominated for induction into the Logistics Hall of Fame, he or she is automatically excluded from the jury for the duration of the voting period in question. In this event, membership ends on the date of the submitted proposal and recommences once the new members have been announced.

§ 6 Secrecy

The members of the jury and the Council undertake to treat the names of proposed and nomi-nated individuals in confidence and not to pass on the documents that have been made available to them to third parties.

§ 7 Extraordinary exclusion from the jury or the Council

Extraordinary exclusion from the jury or the Council is possible based on a special motion (submitted in writing to the Executive Jury Chairperson). A member may be excluded if he or she:

  • neglects their voting duties or fail to exercise their right to vote more than once
  • violates the confidentiality obligation
  • acts in contravention of the statutes of the Logistics Hall of Fame

§ 8 Executive Jury Chairperson

The Executive Jury Chairperson is a full member of the jury and enjoys voting rights. In addition, he or she manages all activities and business operations of the Logistics Hall of Fame organisation.

The duties of the Executive Jury Chairperson include all organisational and representative tasks as well as the communication activities of the Logistics Hall of Fame organisation. These include:

  • Operational control and management of all activities of the Logistics Hall of Fame

  • Contact for cooperation partners
  • Operation of the website
  • Management of internal and external communication (provision of information to relevant bodies, press and PR activities)
  • Formal invitation of new jury members
  • Monitoring of compliance with the Statutes
  • Budget management

§ 9 Election Commissioner

The election commissioner is appointed by the executive chairperson of the jury. He/she monitors the election process to ensure that it is carried out in a correct and proper manner.

§ 10 Duration of membership and exclusion from the Logistics Hall of Fame

Membership of the Logistics Hall of Fame is eternal.

Under special circumstances, the absolute majority of the jury can exclude a member from the Logistics Hall of Fame. Any exclusion of this kind must be decided in a multi-stage procedure:

  • Informed assessment of the reasons for exclusion
  • Discussion in the Nomination Committee
  • A two-third majority of the cast jury votes

A motion for exclusion is to be addressed in writing to the Executive Jury Chairperson.

§ 11 Miscellaneous

There is no legal entitlement to membership. The decision of the jury is final.
